Thomas Piketty is a French economist, Ph.D. in philosophy and a former assistant professor at MIT. He was the director of the School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences, elected "the best young economist in France", co-founder and first director of the Paris School of Economics and winner of the Yrjö Jahnsson prize, which awards economists under 45 who have given a contribution to pure and applied economic research in Europe. Thomas Piketty participated in a debate at the Faculty of Economics, Administration and Accounting at the University of São Paulo on November 26, 2014. At the time, he lamented the lack of data so that he could include an analysis on Brazil in his book and stated that more transparency is necessary - access to income tax returns in Brazil is very restricted.
