Desmond Mpilo Tutu is the Archbishop Emeritus of Southern Africa. He was a prominent figure during the apartheid era in South Africa and the subsequent reconciliation efforts. He was appointed chair of South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission by Nelson Mandela. Tutu also received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 and the Presidential Medal for Freedom in 2009. Among his publications are “The Book of Joy” and “The Book of Forgiving.”
