Kai-Fu Lee is a Taiwanese-born American AI pioneer, China expert, venture capitalist, and bestselling author. In 1988, he built one of the first game-playing programs to defeat a world champion. In the same year, he also developed the world's first large-vocabulary, speaker-independent, continuous speech recognition system, Sphinx. He later worked as an executive at Apple, Microsoft, and Google, and founded Microsoft Research China.
