Born in Chicago to a family of Czech-Jewish origin, he received a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2000. Two years later, he debuted with the award-winning book “Heat Wave.” Since then, he has published several more books, including “Modern Romance” (co-written with Aziz Ansari).
